Adrian Frazier’s book about Chatoyer

I interviewed Dr. Adrian Frazier at his office in Kingstown, St. Vincent Island, on my first visit to St. Vincent back in the early two-thousands when I was doing research for a master’s history thesis. He was on the faculty of the extension branch of the University of the West Indies, Kingstown. Back then, I bought his pamphlet about Chatoyer and used it as a reference for my thesis. He is now retired and has published a short book, From Villain to National Hero: Chatoyer and the Early Struggle for the Independence of St. Vincent (Yurumein). 2019.

His book recounts the history of the role Chatoyer played in St. Vincent’s early history and discusses the sources of information used by historians in an attempt to understand those times objectively. He also explains how Chatoyer was honored as the First National Hero and the day of his martyrdom was declared a national holiday by St. Vincent’s parliament.

The book’s bibliography contains a useful list of references, some of which I was familiar with.
